Jezzine Barracks is a successful urban renewal project and significant tourist destination in the North Queensland region. The $40 million redevelopment was jointly funded from the Commonwealth and State governments and the Townsville City Council.
The 15-hectare heritage precinct commemorates the local indigenous, colonial and military heritage of the site. The site was in military use from 1885 to 2006 and has been transformed into a multi-use public parkland that includes a military museum, art gallery, coastal board walks with views over the Coral Sea, amphitheatre, playground, BBQ facilities and picnic areas. |
